SolaREIT Spotlight: November
Gabriel Galupo
At SolaREIT, our mission to accelerate the clean energy transition is powered by a diverse team of passionate and talented individuals. Each team member is crucial in delivering innovative financing solutions to solar and battery energy storage developers and landowners. As a minority and women-owned business, we know that the unique contributions of every person on our team drive our collective success.
This month, we’re proud to spotlight Gabriel Galupo, a Finance Associate on the SolaREIT team. With a background in finance and a passion for clean energy, Gabriel brings curiosity, focus, and enthusiasm to every project he tackles.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I was born in the Philippines but grew up mainly in Texas. After graduating with a finance degree from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’em Horns!), I moved to Washington, D.C., to work in energy and climate consulting. So far, I’ve enjoyed my time in the DMV and exploring other areas of the East Coast. One fun fact about me: I’m not a picky eater! I love trying new cuisines and cooking new dishes; it makes life rich and interesting.
What inspired you to join SolaREIT?
Right before graduating from college, I interned in energy banking in Houston. That experience solidified my interest in the energy space. Before joining SolaREIT, I worked in areas ranging from critical minerals to project finance, which gave me a broad perspective on the sector. When I saw the Senior Analyst role open here, I knew it was the right fit. SolaREIT’s mission to deploy capital that helps finance clean energy projects gives me a strong sense of ownership and purpose. I was also excited to join a lean, collaborative team where I could really get to know my colleagues.
What has been your most rewarding experience at SolaREIT?
By far, the most rewarding experience has been assisting in our capital-raising processes. I’ve learned so much about how capital is raised in the renewable energy space and the various factors that influence it. Working alongside our finance and legal teams to help secure millions of dollars in capital has been both engaging and deeply rewarding.
How do you see the future of renewable energy and SolaREIT’s role in it?
Despite some industry headwinds, renewable energy remains incredibly resilient. With most of the new energy capacity in the U.S. coming from renewable sources, the outlook is strong. As developers continue to find creative ways to source capital, SolaREIT plays a critical role as a trusted partner, helping bring more clean energy projects across the finish line.
What has surprised you most about working at SolaREIT?
The biggest surprise has been how open, accessible, and down-to-earth our leadership team is. Being able to ask questions and learn directly from industry veterans has been transformative, especially early in my career. It’s a culture that really encourages learning and connection, which I’m very grateful for.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
Outside of work, I try to run at least three times a week to stay active. I enjoy reading books across different genres and watching YouTube video essays on topics such as geography, the physical sciences, and aviation. On weekends, I love exploring new parts of the DMV with friends. And lately, I’ve gotten pretty invested in fantasy football. It’s my first year playing, and it’s definitely been keeping me on my toes!
