SolaREIT Spotlight: September
Matt Kroskin
At SolaREIT, our mission to accelerate the clean energy transition is powered by a diverse team of passionate and talented individuals. Each team member is crucial in delivering innovative financing solutions to solar and battery energy storage developers and landowners. As a minority and women-owned business, we know that the unique contributions of every person on our team drive our collective success.
This month, we're proud to spotlight Matt Kroskin, who supports both our finance and business development teams. With a background in economics and a growing passion for real estate and renewables, Matt brings curiosity, adaptability, and a passion for learning to everything he does.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, and studied economics at the University of Colorado, where I also played lacrosse. My passion for real estate started early—both my dad and grandpa worked in the industry—and I always knew I wanted to follow a similar path. I’m excited to put that passion towards making an impact in clean energy.
What inspired you to join SolaREIT?
I was excited by the opportunity to work in renewable energy—especially on the real estate side, which felt like a natural fit. I didn’t come to SolaREIT with deep experience in clean energy sector, but I was eager to dive in and learn. I’ve been able to use my knowledge and understanding of real estate financing to help our partners while learning more about the specific needs of developers. SolaREIT has been a great place for that.
What has been your most rewarding experience at SolaREIT?
Working with my colleagues on the Business Development team has been fantastic and rewarding. I particularly enjoyed the recent offsite meeting. I split my time between finance and BD, so spending time with our BD team and getting a deeper understanding of their day-to-day was a huge learning opportunity. It gave me a new appreciation for how our work all connects.
How do you see the future of renewable energy and SolaREIT's role in it?
I think renewables will become the dominant source of energy in the U.S.—and sooner than many people think. Solar and battery storage adoption is accelerating, and SolaREIT plays a crucial role in supporting that momentum by helping developers get more projects in the ground.
What has surprised you most about working at SolaREIT?
How much impact a small team can have! It’s been incredible to see the reach and growth of the company—whether it’s working with top-tier developers or seeing our presence at major industry conferences. We punch above our weight.
What do you enjoy doing outside the office?
I’m a big fan of golf, pickleball, and skiing in the winter. I also love reading science fiction and writing a bit when inspiration strikes.
